The plate heat exchanger is a key component found in combi boilers. It transfers heat from the primary heating circuit to your domestic hot water supply without allowing the two water streams to mix.
Made up of multiple thin stainless steel plates, it enables rapid, efficient heat transfer whenever you open a hot tap, giving you instant access to hot water while keeping your central heating water separate. Over time, plate heat exchangers can become scaled or blocked, particularly in hard water areas.
Common signs of failure include lukewarm water, reduced hot water flow, fluctuating temperatures, or the boiler struggling to reach the set hot water temperature.
