The circulation pump moves heated water through the boiler and central-heating system. A weak, seized or faulty pump may cause poor circulation, overheating, unusual noises or boiler lockout.

Pump and circulation problems can contribute to the Ariston 101 fault code. Read our Ariston 101 guide for common overheating causes and safe checks.

A circulation fault does not always mean the pump requires replacement. Trapped air, sludge, restricted filters, wiring or PCB control issues may cause similar symptoms. A Gas Safe engineer should diagnose internal boiler faults before parts are ordered.
